Q: What women inspire you?

A: Tough one! My famous inspiration is Amelia Earhart – she made women realise that they have the skills to succeed, they just don’t always have the confidence to put themselves out there. Like her, we can! My most important inspiration is my Mum: she has taught me that it’s important to have your own career as well as build a family…and the hard work will pay off in the end!

Q: What do you think is the most important skill for female leaders?

A: Female or male, I think the most important skill for a leader is effective communication: in reading, writing and non-verbal as well as verbal. It’s the best way to build relationships, bring a team together and influence.

Q: What advice would you give other women going into Procurement?

A: Constantly drive your career, frequently check on your progress to ensure you are working to the best of your ability, and take risks to continue to grow.

Q: What practical steps should we, as a business, use to promote gender equality

A: The key thing we can do is raise awareness of unconscious bias to understand how it affects our colleagues. We all have subconscious preferences which influence our behaviours and decision making. They may seem small but they can have a huge effect on others.

Q: Where would we find you on a Saturday morning?

A: If the weather’s good – out in the garden! If it’s not good (normally the case in Wales) then in a coffee shop!

Let’s talk.
